What happens to abandoned oil & gas wells in Montana?

Curtis Shuck was interviewed by Montana Public Radio by Nick Mott, and Ellis Juhlin.  Their episode is about abandoned oil and gas wells in Montana. It discusses what orphan wells are and why there is a focus on getting them plugged. The state of Montana has plugged around 600 wells. Plugging a well involves filling the cavity with cement and much more.
